Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2008 [22 Feb 2008|07:50pm]

judithjewcakes
[x-posted from official site]

dear you and your friend:

we have an announcement. this summer, pretty balanced is going to the edinburgh fringe festival because we're young and determined. we will be playing free shows there, to be announced in april, and busking our asses off on the royal mile. if this excites you, think about donating to the trip fund--whatever you'd like, even a dollar. dude, if we could get every pb listener on, say, Last.fm to donate a dollar, we'd.........we'd like go to china. and the fringe festival. what i'm trying to say is, every little bit counts.

button on this page

of course that isn't the only traveling we'll be doing over the summer; we're already starting to plan for midwest and east coast shows. check back soon. look, see, last time i updated was a mere 11 days ago.

love,
-judith jewcakes-

Cry for Help [10 Nov 2007|07:09pm]

judithjewcakes
Hi Everybody!

We're still looking for shows in the following places:

20 Dec: Portland, ME
21 Dec: New York, New Jersey, or Philadelphia
29 Dec: Chicago

If you have any info about local bands or nice small-to-medium-sized venues we should contact, or if you have a big basement/living room and would like to host a public show, please shoot us an email.

We're also looking for street team members. If you wanna help promote a show in your city, fill out the form or, if it doesn't work, because half the time it doesn't and I don't know why, you can email us with the same kind of informitables.

More news, probably as soon as Monday. And good news. Good amazing news. I bet you can't wait, because I can't.

Love,
-jew-

Album Contest = Prizes! Glory! Fame! [25 Apr 2007|02:41pm]

mimeynaomi
CD sales have been going up steadily, but slowly, in the last couple of months. We're getting ready to produce Conical Monocle and would love to do it without investors this time. We could, if we got a last burst of IB sales.

So this is what we're offering:

If you can get your friends to buy Icicle Bicycle online, we'll give you a present. Tell them to write "Recommended by (your name)" in the comment box on the PayPal order form, and I'll keep track of who's recommended whom.

Prizes:

1-2 people = a postcard from somewhere neat (like Ohio). Your recommendee(s) will also get one
3-4 people = a postcard + an 11x17 poster, hand-screen-printed in 2 colors by me, Jew
5-9 people = a postcard + a poster + a "special" Pretty Balanced t-shirt (they have things sewn on them)
10+ people = a postcard + a poster + a shirt + A SHOW IN YOUR HOUSE.

No matter where you live in the US, if you can get 10 people to buy our CD, we'll drive to your state, and have a show in your basement/living room/whatever.

This assumes it's okay with your landlords/parents. If it isn't, we'll work something out, but we will come to your city and play you a free performance, or get a show and let you in for free. Something like that. You'll get to see us live, free.

IF YOU ARE FROM A FOREIGN COUNTRY AND YOU GET 100 PEOPLE IN YOUR TOWN TO BUY OUR CD, WE'LL PLAY A SHOW IN YOUR HOUSE, IN THAT COUNTRY. Sorry that the bar's higher, but flight expenses, you know.

UPDATE: The contest ends when Conical Monocle comes out. So 4 months, tops. Probably a lot less.

Pretty Balanced Needs Help on Tour [12 Oct 2006|03:54pm]

mimeynaomi
If you:

Are part of a band
Live in a major East Coast city
Have a basement

..you can help us go on tour this winter.

For we are poor, young and have no tour manager!!

We are looking for venue shows AND basement shows in OR AROUND Boston,
Providence, New York City, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Baltimore, and
D.C., AND ANYWHERE IN-BETWEEN, between December 20th and December 31st.
If you are a local and just know of a good, small venue that would
appreciate a baby national act, tell us! If you are in a band, we would
be happy to have a show with you, we don't care how small you are, if
you can get gigs. If you have a house with a basement or just a large
room and want to volunteer it as a temporary venue, I'm afraid we can't
give you money, but we can give you a show in your house, and I think
that's pretty cool.

We are not picky. We just want to go on tour. If we go on tour and it
isn't a total bust, we can go on tour again, in the summer. And that
would be SWEET.

Please message me [Judith] with ANYTHING you have to offer.

EVEN THE NAME OF YOUR FAVORITE SMALL VENUE.

ANYTHING.

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We love you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We want to
play
for you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love,
-Jew-

Hello lovely people on the mailing list:

I just thought that I would send out a little note to everyone: We have a
CD for sale from our website, www.prettybalanced.com. please go to the
website and buy the CD. thank you. when you buy the CD, you are making
sure that we can do the East Coast tour this winter that we are so eagerly
planning. That's right, if you live on the East Coast, like, in Boston, or
New York, or somewhere in-between or out-between, then we will have a show
that you can attend! I think that's pretty exciting.

Right now Judith is going to college near Boston at Montserrat School of
Art and I am attending the music conservatory at Capital University in
Columbus OHio. That means we won't have any shows till at least
thanksgiving.

thanks to every last one of you for ze love!

The flash player is coming, we promise, but for the time being you can check out a preview of the album on our MySpace--4 songs in their entirety. I hope they work, MySpace has been being kind of bitchy lately.

New Recordings [30 Nov 2005|08:45pm]

mimeynaomi
It totally slipped my mind to make a LiveJournal announcement of this but there is a full live show up right here with about two and a half million new songs.......

While I'm updating, most of the recording for the new album is done [just about everything except some more vocals] and today we burned a disk to give to the BOTB people and I listened to it in a practice room..wow, we sound polished. Polished, and not at all how I imagined we sound.

My Word, a Review! [28 Oct 2005|03:36pm]

mimeynaomi
a dark cabaret was reviewed by mick mercer here, and the part with us in it goes like this:

"the appearance of audra’s tasteful ‘cabaret fortune teller’, nicki jaine’s catchy ‘pretty faces’, with its understanding of suitable simplicity, and a stunning ‘simon’s sleeping’ by pretty balanced, possessing an almost frightened sound further establishes various strong indie capabilities, on top of which the cheery comedy of ‘knock three times’ by black tape for a blue girl perches as a whimsical curio."

in other news, no halloween show this year. we're very sorry. look out for more "basement tour" dates though.
